Family Night
Another great Family Night!
It’s wonderful to see students from the "Three Dojos" beginning to bond with one another and form friendships.
Grandmaster Mills lead a wonderful class on reflex drills, incorporating a bit of arnis and krav maga into our arsenals.
The highlight of the night for me was the appearance of Master Mike Acuff.
I have been training in the martial arts for 35 years, and in that time have met, fought and trained with some of the best but in my opinion Mike Acuff is the best of the best.
Mike has been my Hero, Role Model, Sensei and Friend throughout my years of training and I can not begin to express my appreciation for all he has given.
Just slightly under the appearance of Master Acuff was being able to face off against my son Chandler in the Grand Championship of our little in-house tournament. Although I was crowned Champion I must publicly confess Chandler hit me with two kicks that were not called. (Which Masters Tolliver and Bowers immediately called me on as soon as I left the ring.) I couldn’t be proud!
Now onto my picks of students who "Shined" …
Christian …. Get use to hearing the name because this young man has talent, attitude and heart way beyond his years. Once we break his TKD mindset watch out!!
And speaking of heart …. At the end of the night Grandmaster Mills announced to pair up for the last fight of the night and through the crowd I see a young man with a cast on his wrist and a big smile on his face making his way towards me. Derick or "Brad’s Boy" as I refer to him said he had been looking for me all night then preceded to fight with his broken wrist behind his back. (I’m sure he got that technique from Brad who has undoubted told him he could beat me with one hand behind his back.)
Brad, you will be happy to know that he wore me out!
Thanks to all for your attendance, hard work and friendship ……

Another fun night. I love this monthly "get together"... it's fun to meet people from the other Schools... I always know I'm going to learn something. The "quick matches" were fun... as were the last two matches of the evening, where we got to "Free Spare"...
However I've learned to "groan" when we do any "warmup exercise" that begins with "Hebrew..." I can kid myself into thinking I'm staying in pretty good shape until I try a "Hebrew Pushup"... " then I realize I'm 50 years old... and stiff...
Thank you all for your efforts...
