Arnis Class
Just wanted to thank Master Mills and Sensei Walker for joining Evan and I for some great stick work Monday night. My knuckles are still swollen and sore. Thanks for your sweat and support.
We had also taken some pictures to post on the website but seems Evan and I just can’t keep from grinning while we inflict pain on one another … we’ll try again soon ….

Mr. Allen glad to hear you had a good time Monday night. We missed you Tuesday night at halls. My great grand father had problems with his knuckles swelling and hands being sore also. He would put W D 40 on them and it worked for him.Just an suggestion Kent B

tigerclaw actually has new gloves made just for stick fighting. maybe you guys should check them out.

Sorry Shane, I couldn't help taking an easy shot at Bradley ....
Actually the gloves are great for when we get into some contact sparring .. but in our basic flow drills as we learn the various angles of attack those bruised knuckles are instant feedback on how well our techniques will work in the real world ...
Brad and I are in the process of ordering a couple sets of stick sparring gear so we can take it up a notch ...
If you or any of your guys are interested in arnis feel free to drop by any Monday night at North Knox or catch one of Halls Stick Night Seminars.
If there's enough interest with your guys to warrant some seminars just contact Evan or I and we'll be happy to set something up.
You might also pass the word around about our Knife Defense classes the first Monday of every month ... this class is for adults over 18 and concentrates on the bladed aspects of arnis .... this is not your typical knife defense class where we throw a bunch of iffy techniques at you that only work in the dojo ... what we are doing is a modular system with training blades that develops muscle memory and awareness ...
So feel free to give it a try ... it's free to the family, fun and something I wish I'd have gotten involved in years ago ....

Mike ,
I think we could get some interest in the classes. I for one think the knife class sounds good. I read alot about blade fighting and would like to learn more. I think alot of people carry them but do they really know how to use them. Mine is a backup when i'm not packing my Colt 1911. LOL

Hey Mark you're in good company ... between Bradley and Evan we have a moblie arsenal ... I'm the only one left who hasn't got his carry ...
The system we are using is Bram Frank's Modular Knife .... you can check it out of the web ... it's a great system that stresses real time training instead of step by step techniques .... so come on by and check us out or grab me at family night and I'll be happy to show you what we're doing ....
Thanks for the interest.

Now we're talking. Always nice to find out about some other shooters. I've probably got enough in my gun vault to outfit both dojos if you want to go shoot. Now I will ask about my other love. Do y'all have any deer or turkey hunters over there.

Not me, as long as there's a Kroger I'm good .... but if you toss the name Evan Bowers around to some of the hunters you know you'll probably hear some wild tails .... all true I might add, and Kevin Gentry will take a shot at a buck going down the interstate at 80 plus .... other than those two I'm not sure.

i would like that alot actually. i have been wanting to take a stick class, but alot of what i see in stick fighting is more than anything just fancy patterns and flashy stick work. i want to learn how to actually use the sticks as dangerous defensive weapons i dont really care about anything flashy. is that the sort of thing you guys do in your arnis class? when is the next seminar at halls? it is tough what with the monday class at the lewis school to get away, but im interested i wish you guys could stop by and show me some of what you do in these classes and then i would be able to decide if thats for me. possibly a saturday or something. maybe at the next family gettogether we can work some stuff instead of sparring all night. i appreciate the invite and i will talk it up in the classes.

Great! If you know anything about Bradley, Evan or myself you know the term flashy just doesn't apply. Unless you are referring to light reflecting off Bradley's head .....
We take the no nonsense approach ... if it don't work don't waste your time. That being said we do teach the flow drills, not because they make us look good but because of the muscle memory, coordination and speed that you gain. You're right in that alot of stick classes get caught up in the fancy patterns but have no idea of how they translate to real combat ... The system we follow is Remy Presas Modern arnis as taught by Master Louis Grinnell from Wheeler's School ... and you just can't get any more no nonsense than Master Grinnell!!
Next Stick Night at Halls is scheduled for Tuesday March 18th where we will be working stick locks and empty hand translations, or just drop by Halls any Thursday night and I'll be happy to show you what we're doing.
Master Mills asked Bradley and I last night to work up and demonstrate some of our empty hand drills at family night so you'll get a little taste of arnis then .... also if anyone has a drill they would like to demonstrate please contact Master Mills, Sensei Walker or myself so we can work you into the program ......
Bradley and I have been meaning to visit your saturday workout and now that I'm finally well I hope to make it soon ..... and we'll try to get Evan there as long as it's not hunting season ..... and as far as seminars go ... just let me know what you want!
See you family night.

i believe i could talk mr. lewis into a seminar from you guys. he would probally ask to do something for you all in exchange. i think there is alot we can learn from each other. i look forward to 2008 and the continued sharing of knowledge. do you have extra arnis sticks or do i have to get my own. or can i just bring two sticks from my back yard?

That's the nice thing about having this big family is all the different interests make for some great training ... I normally carry a few pairs of sticks with me so don't go cutting any tree limbs before you decide if it's something you would like to continue with ....

Thanks for braving the weather kent. You made my saturday. Im sorry there wasnt more people. There will be in the future of course. I really enjoyed working with a like minded fighter. The ridge hand will be added to my technique list. I hope you enjoyed the one on one work. I know i needed the kata work. By the way im still amazed at how we come from different teachers who both had different lineages themselves we can put that all aside for a good day of training and most of all good fellowship. You wont find that much in isshinryu. The little differences can cause a lot of arguing and hatred among martial artists. Im glad we can look past all that and learn. That is very unique. Ive said enough but thanks again for stopping by. Check out seiberkarate website and go to the forum at the button menu.

Right off hand I don't know of anyone who has ranked in Judo but check with Master Mills and MacMahon, if someone has they should know about it ....
